August Final Friday: The Percolator does Theatre!

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

August 28th & 29th, September 5th & 6th at 8:30 pm:

Orange Mouse Theatricals, is producing Ed Gracyzk's "Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" as an immersive theatre event, opening the Final Friday in August (8/28) at the Lawrence Percolator,  complete with pre-show entertainment including impersonators of pop icons of the 50s and a curated exhibit featuring local artists. The entire building will be transformed into a roadside five & dime with soda fountain refreshments and beer available as well as handmade merchandise for sale throughout the month of September, provided by area artisans.

Gracyzk's play, written in 1980, opened on Broadway in 1982, was made into a film directed by the Broadway director (Robert Altman) in 1985 and was popular among university and community theatres throughout the 80s and 90s. This nearly all female cast show features many social issues relevant more today than perhaps they were in the 70s and 80s.

The cast consists of 7 women, 1 transgender female (usually played by a woman) and 1 teenage boy. Orange Mouse Theatricals production will be the first time a transgender female has been cast in the role of Joanne, at a time when equality and respect for all alternative genders is in the media and on everyone's mind. Cancer, domestic violence, sexual orientation/gender identification, mental illness and blind religious belief are all met head-on in this provocative script whose time has and will "come back" again and again.
